Went to see Rocco Deluca on Saturday night @ the Roxy. A girl at the office has chased this poor guy thru 7 states over the last year and has punked me and Money into going to the show. I had shit to do Sat, so did Money so we don't even get to the "New Buckhead" until 9pm or so. 3 or 4 drinks at Churchill Arms, one of the few remaining bars, and we make it just in time.
We get texts from Coca and she tells us to look for the Bunny. Yep - a guy walks around in an Easter Bunny costume drinking beer. This is supposed to mean that Keiffer Sutherland is there. Big fucking deal. I have never seen 1 episode of "24", but I did like the Lost Boys.
About the show... Hmmm.... To me, it reminded me of the soundtrack for O Brother Where Art Thou. His slide guitar is some Mississippi Delta twang and all he needed was a banjo to be Blue Grass. He played his hit song "Beautiful" and the crowd goes wild - I yell "Play it AGAIN" since it was the only song I knew. George Thorogood is the master of the rocking slide guitar. Rocco's band was decent but he had 2 percussionists, 1 drummer and 1 bongo, cymbals, shaker, cowbell guy and they barely played. The 5 songs that the drummer actually played a beat (snare / top hat rythem) those songs were really good.
I'm glad I went, Glad I saw, now I won't have to go again. Coca should understand, everyone needs to find their groove. In my life I have known many a Dead Head, and Phish fanatic and have never understood that either.
