Beckham got Busted...

I have been on the fence on whether David Beckham is good for the MLS. He brought in Cosmos type crowds in New York and lost the game 5-4. What a game. After that things are questionable...

Now Wednesday night Beckham got injured. Looked like a legitimate injury BUT the play he got hurt on is something he has been practicing since he was in primary school. It's called a Bust. When you instep meets the ball at the same time the other players instep meets the ball. The better, stronger player wins most of the time. It was a legal play and Beckham went flying. Now he is out for 6 weeks - that seems excessive.

Now Beck's is out for a 3 game set with the English National Team. I am sure they are happy about that AND the detractors of the MLS in England will have plenty of fodder to keep bashing our league.

The MLS is somewhat to blame as well. Argueably no one watches MLS - right? Well they should be focusing on ways to attract fans vs. trying to emmulate the European Leagues. The game Beckham got hurt in didn't even count. It was a Super Liga game. What the Hell is Super Liga??? Some idiot figured we should have unimportant games in the US to try and match UEFA Cup games. Dumbasses.

Until the US comes up with a truely performance related leagues the MLS will continue to flail. The US will NEVER match the English Premeirship "relegation" determination. Relegation means that the bottom 4 teams in the premeirship get demoted and have to play in the league below them and the top 4 teams in the 1st Division get promoted to the Premeirship.

Put this in MLB terms. You have the Majors, AAA, AA and A ball. Theoretically the Richmond Braves could win thier division and get promoted to the Major League while the Tampa Bay Devil Rays or Kansas City Royals could be demoted to AAA. This would never happen but this would be a true performance based league.

OH well, Beckham can make a few more commercials and attend a few more photoshoots while he is laid up...
